API Results

Franklin High School rises up to the challenge to meet its API goal! Congratulations to all students and staff for such great accomplishment. We will have refreshments for A and C track teachers in the main office on Thursday before school starts. We are still planning a celebration for our students. Any ideas are welcome. All of us should feel proud of this great success. The current academic year brings new challenges but our ability to continue improving is clear and we are ready for the challenge.

We experience this improvement when many of the high schools in the district experienced a drop in their goals. Slowly but surely Franklin High School Rises to the challenge!

AYP results are not officially published but it is likely we will become a PI5 school. Although our improvements were school wide, our English Learners did not meet their targets. This will probably keep us in the program improvement category. The good news is we are becoming better at preparing and analyzing data to be able to meet the needs of all of our students.

This year we will expand the vocabulary development program. Teachers have identified high frequency words that will be taught school-wide. We will also have Saturday English and mathematics CAHSEE preparation workshops for all students. The CAHSEE boot camps will also be offered. We again will activities and our homeroom adoption program. As you can see the work continues but we are ready for it. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. I look forward to becoming a school in the 700’s!

Small Learning Communities at Franklin High

The work towards implementing small learning communities continues. Teachers in B and C tracks participated in a gallery walk to select a small learning community of their choice. Prior to the gallery walk, teachers from existing academies presented to their colleagues to inform them about their goals, their vision for their students, and their plans toward achieving those goals. Teachers who did not select an academy will be with be assisted by Ms. Powell to select one. A track teachers will have an opportunity to select an academy of their choice once we are finished with accreditation preparation and exercises. As was suggested by several of you, no assignments will be done prior to this activity. We should hear from the federal government about the status of our SLC grant application by September 30th. This grant will give us more resources to continue our preparation towards wall to wall implementation. For teachers interested about learning more from schools involved in this work, I recommend an article in the Daily News September 5th issue. This is an article about the new Woodland Hills Academy.
